The blank-check company, sponsored by Sustainable Opportunities Holdings LLC and targeting the sustainable materials and clean-energy transition sector, completed its IPO in 2020. SOAC subsequently announced a business combination with The Metals Company, formerly DeepGreen Metals, a deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining company focused on battery-grade metals including nickel, cobalt, and manganese.
